The Illinois Lottery has announced a new draw lottery game called hit or miss. Hit or Miss is being touted as a game where you can win cash prizes if none of your numbers get drawn or some of your numbers get drawn.
Hit or Miss is a $2 game that has only 24 numbers that you choose from, however, you must choose 12 numbers. You pick 12 numbers from 1-24 or you can also just get a quick pick where the numbers are chosen for you. You can play 2-24 draws in advance, but this game is drawn 4 times a day, so 24 draws is just 6 days worth of draws.
The morning game is drawn 4 times daily at 10:30am and you must have your tickets to this game in by 10:25am. The Midday drawing is at 12:40pm and you must have your tickets by 12:35pm. The “Drive Time” drawing takes place at 6:30pm and you must get your ticket by 6:25pm. The last drawing of the day is the evening drawing and it takes place at 9:22pm and your tickets for this drawing must be purchased by 9:15pm.
All tickets automatically get a “Good Life Number” and this number only comes into play if you match all 12 of your numbers to the winning numbers or none of your numbers to the winning numbers. The good life number is 1-5 and is randomly generated and added to every ticket. You can’t choose this number and it is not optional. If you match all 12 of your numbers to the winning numbers or match none of your numbers to the winning numbers, you win the grand prize of $250,000. If you also match the good life number, you will win an additional $100,000 a year for 20 years.
In the case of multiple winners of the grand prize without matching the good life number, the prize liability per game is $5,000,000. If this happens, the prize becomes pari-mutual. The liability cap for the top prizes that include the good life number is $8,000,000 per game. If there happen to be between 5-16 winners of the top prize with the good life number, each winner will receive their $250,000 regular prize and the good life prize will be divided among the winners from a pool of $400,000 per year. If there are more than 16 winners in one game of the top prize and the good life number, each winning ticket will get the top prize of $250,000 (remember the total liability is $5 million) and then $8,000,000 will be divided among the winners and paid in one lump sum. For example, there happen to be 23 winners of the top prize plus all the top prize winners matched the good life number, each winner would get $217,391 for their top prize and $347,826 in a lump sum for the good life prize. Of course, this would be very rare.
